The style of Tai
Chi Chuan that I practice is the Tchoung Family's version of the 'Old
Yang Style'. Master Tchoung Ta Tchen studied the 'Old Yang Style' with
Shi Diao Mei in 1959. This is where my form came from, on the principle
that a movement to the left must have a corresponding movement to the
right, which Master Tchoung Ta Tchen called The 'Symmetrical Dual
System'. Shi was the head of the Police Academy and was a student of
Tian Zhao-lin. Tian was a famous Tai-Chi master and top student of Yang
Shou-hou and his father, Yang Chien-hou.
This is called the 'Older Form' of Yang style because it was taught
before Yang Shou-hou's younger brother, Yang Cheng-fu, who modified the
form into what is called the 'Standard Yang Style' today. What I
practice is based on the older form of Yang Chien-hou and Yang Shou-hou.
Similar, but different to the more common Yang Cheng-fu form which was
said to have modified the form to make it easier to learn. The Yang
Shou-hou version still has the faster kicks and waist movements absent
in the newer versions. The emphasis on pull-down, elbow, split,
shoulder, waist turning and faster kicks as well as the symmetrical dual
movements, make this system look somewhat different from the 'Standard
Yang Style'. This unique system of Tai Chi Chuan was taught to me by
certified Tchoung System Instructor, Andrew Dale (Internal Wu-Shu Arts)
in 1979 Seattle, WA and practiced with Master Tchoung Ta Tchen (Chinese
Tai Chi Chuan Assoc.) in Richmond, BC.

A
Class or session can include a combination of Tai Chi Chuan Long Form
(Sections 1-6), Simplified Form, Chi Kung, Stretching, Breathing
exercises, Push hands, Straight sword, Broad sword and Cane forms.
Even though you may learn Tai Chi Chuan from the same branch or
school, because differences in natural endowment and physique, you will
display from others a difference when practicing the art. This is like
the English alphabet. Although we all learn from the same model of
writing, you will display your own peculiarity when you write your
signature.
I usually teach in 8 week courses (1 day per week)
and/or private lessons catered to the individual, expecting the student
to take personal time to read the classics and practice at home.
